National Postal Museum - Systems at Work

這是去年6月11日去Washington DC的遊記，那天早上去了在Union Station旁邊的National Postal Museum（國立郵政博物館）參觀，這篇文章是「Systems at Work」（系統工作）篇。這區就是展示著從早期美國郵政到現在，處理郵件使用的工具。

我在這區沒有拍很多照片，我只拍了一些我覺得比較有趣的物件。下面這個很明顯是個舊式的磅秤，用來測量郵件的重量的。

這個機器我覺得很有趣，這是用來打郵件的barcodes（條碼）的。舉例來說，如果我們收到明信片，通常都會看到明信片背面或是正面底下會有一條長條的條碼，就是用這種機器打印出來的。下面照片的這個看起來是比較早期使用的機器。

這個是郵件分類袋，每個袋子代表著一個郵件投遞的城鎮，郵袋下方那裡可以放置還沒有整理入袋的包裹。

郵件數位化之後，就有了這種方便的機器，可以掃描條碼就可以知道郵件的去處跟處理狀況。
