National Postal Museum - Moving the Mail

這是去年6月11日去Washington DC的遊記，那天早上去了National Postal Museum（國立郵政博物館）參觀，這個博物館就在Union Station（華盛頓聯合車站）旁邊，我的火車是下午兩點多回康州，早上的空檔正好在這裡還可以參觀一下。下面照片是郵政博物館的外觀。

這是郵政博物館的入口大廳，這個博物館也是Smithsonian系列的博物館，所以入場無料。不過入口還是有警衛會檢查個人的隨身包包。

博物館的挑高空間大廳展示著很多有關郵政的交通工具，這區的展覽叫做「Moving the Mail」（投遞郵件）。這台飛機是「The Wiseman-Cooke」是以飛行員Fred Wiseman使用並起名的美國郵政用的平信飛機，1911年開始使用。

大廳最中間的這台飛機是「deHavilland DH-4」，也是美國郵政在1918到1926年使用的寄送平信用的飛機。

挑高大廳的第三架飛機是「Stinson Reliant」，這台飛機是1939年開始使用的，主要是寄送郵件到那些沒有機場或是降落空間的地點，飛行員會用吊掛的方式投遞郵件到地面上，不會降落。

這是1931年使用的「Ford Model A Parcel Post Truck」（福特郵政用卡車），那時候卡車的塗裝是橄欖綠色。

這是1986年使用的「Long Life Vehicle」，白色塗裝的郵政用車，已經很像現在美國郵政用來送信或包裹的顏色。

在大廳一隅還有一個只有車頭的藍色卡車，還有個樓梯可以上去看看。

大廳也有一個郵政火車用的車廂，也是橄欖綠色的塗裝外觀。

而且車廂裡面可以進去參觀，這是車廂內部的樣子，美國在1832年就開始使用火車投遞郵件。

大廳一隅也有好多種郵筒喔，這邊都是紅色系的郵筒，我只認識最左邊那個有寫「郵便」的郵筒。

另外一隅也有不同顏色的郵筒，我很快就發現右邊數來第二的那個郵筒，有點熟悉又有點陌生。

陌生的應該是顏色，現在平信應該是綠色，限時應該是紅色的，這個則是藍白雙色的。上面的文字真的讓我覺得很熟悉。
