National Museum of Natural History - Fossil Mammal Hall

這是6月9日去Washington DC的遊記，那天下午去了National Museum of Natural History （國立自然歷史博物館）參觀，這篇是Fossil Mammals（哺乳類動物的化石）的文章。一進來這區就看到這個龐大的大象骨骼化石，大象的象牙好長喔。

另外一邊還有一隻比較小的大象骨骼化石。

這是比較小的大象骨骼化石的另外一面，這區的骨骼化石模型幾乎全都是絕種的哺乳類動物。

還有鹿的骨骼化石，這隻鹿的角真的是很驚人。

這還滿大隻的，是「Ground Sloth」（地懶），這個地懶的學名是「Eremotherium」，此種類的地懶已經絕種。

這隻的學名是「Paramylodon」（副磨齒獸），這是另一種較小型的地懶種類，不過這種類現今也已絕種。

這隻是「Sabertoothed Cat」（劍齒虎）的骨骼化石，這已經是絕種的生物了，英文是寫Cat，中文翻成虎，照骨骼體型來看，是比較偏像貓的大小。

這是多半生活在北美地區的「Giant Anteater」（大食蟻獸）骨骼化石，現在好像也看不到這麼大隻的食蟻獸了。

這看起來很像犰狳的「Glyptodon」（雕齒獸），現今也是絕種了。

這是「Early Pleistocene Horse」（早期古新世的馬）的骨骼化石。

這也是古新世時期的犀牛（Rhino）骨骼化石。

這是也是絕種的「Stegomastodon arizonae」（劍乳齒象）的骨骼化石，這隻象跟現今的大象比較起來，好像比較小隻。

這隻是「Moropus elatus」（石爪獸）的骨骼化石，這種已經絕種的動物類似於馬、犀牛或是貘，只是這類動物是用蹄走路，這種動物則擁有爪子。

這也是早期體型比較小的犀牛的一種，學名叫做「Monoceras cooki」。

這也是很像犀牛的早期動物，叫做「Titanothere」（雷獸），學名叫做「Brontotherium hatcheri」。

這也是犀牛的近親之一，學名叫做「Trigonias osborni」，相對於雷獸，不過這種犀牛的頭上並沒有角。

這是「The Eocene's Big Bird」（始新世的大鳥）的骨骼化石。

這隻也叫做「Titanothere」（雷獸），學名是「Palaeosyops paludosus」，體型較小，是雷獸的前身，又叫「古雷獸」。

這是始新世最巨大的哺乳類動物叫做「Uintatheres」（猶因他獸），他的頭上有長角也有尖齒，看起來威嚇性十足，不過他是草食類動物。

這是生活在Permian（二疊紀）的「Dimetrodon grandis」（異齒龍），最明顯的特徵就是背部的突起狀背帆，雖說是龍，這種龍跟恐龍並不同屬，還是屬於哺乳類動物。
