這幾天停留在Rochester，正好遇到dutch guest composer, Louis Andriessen來Eastman School of Music三天，也去參加了Andriessen對作曲學生辦的symposium and a master class. Rochester這個地方是個很典型的美國城市，沒有什麼高樓大廈，建築物大部分是平房，而且也沒有什麼好玩的地方，雖然身上仍有時差問題需要調整，也希望不要白費這幾天停留在Rochester的時間，我還是打起精神去參加了。

因為才剛下飛機，February 20在Kilbourn Hall的Muisca Nova音樂會，因為太累實在無法參加；February 21在Ciminelli Formal Lounge的master class，有四位Eastman的作曲研究生發表作品，大家都很敢寫，有股很強的衝勁去表達自己的想法，我想這是台灣學生很欠缺的一面，太過收斂不敢勇於表達自己，另外Andriessen的Dutch-English實在是不好聽得懂，我也藉由這樣的方式盡量變成英文思考的模式；February 22早上在Room 514, Eastman School of Music裡的composition symposium，Andriessen talking about his music by the work, Racconto dall 'interno (Story from the Hell)，很多都不是來自Classical的素材，Andriessen很大膽地用進去作品當中，而且聽起來相當make sense，很有畫面感跟侵略性的作品；February 22晚上，在Eastman Theatre的Eastman Philharmonica的音樂會中，演出了Louis Andrissen: La Passione 和 Igor Stravinsky: The Rite of Spring，Eastman Philharmonia的主要成員，大部分是Eastman School of Music的學生，想起來就有點汗顏，在台灣的學校樂團，誰敢演出The Rite of Spring？而Eastman Philharmonica卻只花了兩個禮拜練習就上場演出，也就更不用談更艱難的Louis Andriessen的作品了。

這幾天覺得自己很有收穫，算是沒白來Rochester這幾天，明天即將參加Eastman interview的我，是這幾天停留Rochester最重要的事情，也希望自己能夠勇敢地表達自己，傳達出自己音樂的信念，like all of the composers in Eastman.
